REFLECTION

BUILDING MATERIAL

In this module, we were widely exposed to various building materials that are used in the construction industry. The projects that was given to us were cater to the application of these knowledge into our work. The first project was to select a building that has widely use a variety of building material in their building, such as bricks, glass, concrete and more. As for the second project, we also had to choose a building, but this time we had to go to theits actual site and get a more in depth information about their intentions of using the building materials and how it complements building concept and design.
PROJECT 1 :
Classification of Building Materials
PROJECT 2: Materiality of SPACE : An Experiential Exploration
This module gave us an introduction of the basic building materials Throughout the projects, I was able to have a more in depth understanding of each material that were normally used in buildings. The project gave me an opportunity to be exposed to the building materials and have an eye opening experience, in terms of understanding how each and every building material has contributed in the functionality, design and also structural support of a building. Other than understanding of the roles of the different kind of building material, I've got to learned how the building materials was produced. It was a great insight knowing how the building material come about, and how the processes that they've undergone before coming to its end product. Throughout the module, it made me realized how great the advancement and development of the building technologies compared to the past. The new and improved building technologies was able to increase the quality, efficiency of producing every building material that is present.

I never knew a subject that has always been took for granted of has so much knowledge and stories behind it, and how the building materials play such a crucial role in making architecture stands out, allowing architecture to be able to speak for itself.
