ARCHITECTURAL STUDIO III

| ARC60106 |

In this module, we started off with a case study, Stonehenge visitor centre, in order to understand what a visitor interpretive centre (VIC) is. Through the case study, we were able to grasp an understanding of its functionality, its approach and meaning of the existence of the VIC. The whole module main focus surround the idea of implementing the poetic experience of the building.

We proceeded with our site analysis work. The site was Sekinchan, and it was separated into 2 sites, one being the paddy field, and another is the Bagan Fishing Village. We were given the topic of 'Circulation', and our aim is to consolidate information regarding the given topic.

After compiling all the site analysis information, we then enter our final individual project, which is designing a VIC for the chosen site. The site analysis information was our guideline to facilitate us throughout the process.

REFLECTION

Its always a productive work, a great learning process when we have a basic understanding of the brief and building that we will be in touch with. The project started off with a case study, which helps a lot in having an overall idea and knowing its fundamental of it's approach in design, in it's spaces. The whole project gave us an opportunity in understanding poetics, emphasis on giving a meaning, and also liven up a space. The biggest learning outcome from this module is that we learnt how to connect with the place, be aware of our senses, and cultivating that sense of depth in each spaces in bringing out it's poetics and quality of space, how everything reflects the site. There was a more developed thinking process in this module, as we're in touch with a public building, whereby more consideration need to be taken account. In this module, the final presentation board is essential in representing concepts and ideas. It is important that the boards were reflection of the ideas that was emphasized. Overall, it was a growth in terms of the thinking process, and also connecting with the place, connecting people. It was about bringing our visualization to live and solidifying its meaning, giving it more depth to its architecture.

'' Architecture, is also all the things that are not architecture. '- Ms. Raihana. This was a saying by my tutor, and it was something that impacted me from this VIC project, something that woke me up. Architecture covers a huge scope of ideas and topics. Its all about being more sensitive and having constant exposure to the outside world, to keep yourself on par, and be knowledgeable.
