BUILDING CONSTRUCTION II
| BLD60703 |
In this module, we were required to construct a bus shelter in a scale of 1 : 5, using the application of knowledge of a skeletal construction. It was a project that required thorough research and understanding before proceeding to the practical work of constructing the details of each component. We then moved on to the second project, which exposed us to the different types of approach in designing a roof. We were required to carry out research based on a case study and replicate the roof into a model.

REFLECTION
This project was a good hands-on practice for us to have a more holistic understanding of how construction works. In the first project, I've encounter multiple issues that will never be taken notice if there wasn't any practical work. It was all about precision and accuracy in measurement, the knowledge of how materials come together, understanding how forces plays a role in impacting the joints, the structure in withstanding loads, the method of constructing the bus shelter and more. There were so many considerations needed to be done before proceeding our work in constructing the bus shelter. Preparation in terms of understanding of knowledge or methods and the materials takes up a lot of time. In the process of constructing the structure, there would be more problems that arises and there was many instances that needed problem solving skills to check one problem to another off the list. The second project focused more on the understanding of forces in building construction, mainly on the roof structures. Research must be done in order to understand how the case study that was chosen, was constructed and the contribution of each component of the structure that facilitate the overall support. The roof that we were doing was a grid shell roof that was never attempted before in my past learning experience and it was through the model making that made us understood how the construction works. Overall, the practical work in this module is crucial in order for us to have a more in depth understanding of construction. It was a tiring process but it was rewarding in terms of a better grasps of knowledge in construction.
