ARCHITECTURE DESIGN STUDIO V

This semester's module focuses on an urban infill project- community library. Prior to the final project, we carried out both, macro (500m radius) and micro (200m radius) site analysis, identifying the important nodes and understanding primarily the form, activities, and movement pattern in the town, that establishing the town's sense of place. We identified issues that could possibly become the starting point of our design formulation, improving the site issues as well as improving the community. In the final design studio project, we translate our observations and analysis into design.

REFLECTION

This module not only deals with sense of place, or purely designing, but it also deals with the reality of design, such as considerations of fire stairways, boundaries, other fire escapes measure and more. It is prompt towards the practicality of architecture in an urban setting. Its is different from the previous design studio modules as more design considerations needed to be done, and also deals with an urban infill. The difference in its site added on to a different scope of challenge to the project. Designing was challenging and limited for me at the beginning, given that the space is limited in between buildings. As it slowly progresses, it opens up your senses to look at different aspects of designing, finding ways to enhance the spaces with its given condition. This time, there were many considerations between the fusion of both the internal spaces in the library, as well as the public realm. It is interesting to find balance between both of these aspects, and get the best of both worlds. This project in particular helped me understand more about the reciprocation between public realms and the architecture itself.
