|| AMSTERDAM
|| Compact. ||
The accommodation of high density residentials done tastefully in a compressed manner. Repetitive in architectural elements were implemented without the inclusion of standardization. It sustains the features and character of its building, with innovations of unique structure in an unified whole. The canal and addition of its street complements with the building blocks, elevates its connectivity with one another.
|| Expression. ||
The variation in building’s facade design layout overshone the initial state of its congregation blocks. Each block was given character and personality, embracing the comfortability of the occupants, accentuating the liveliness of its neighborhood. The fusion of rigidity in buildings and fluidity in water canal, balances the holistic living environment.
|| Gravitate. ||
With its existing canal seeping through the city, its opportunity is utilized to create floating market, bringing pedestrian an extensive experience along the canal. The transparent shell of the market forms capsules that enhances the visual connectivity with its functionality and its surrounding environment.
|| Transcend. ||
The discovery of hidden streets and immersed into the landscape of its place. Encounters of portals, with entry of unexpected pathways or route that brings pedestrian back in time, experiencing a place where it reflects the simplicity in life, streets that promotes interactions with the emphasis in connections and relationships between people, the community.
|| KUALA LUMPUR
|| Convergence. ||
The concentric organization of building has unintentionally form central spaces. Its overall footprint of its placement has shaped intersections of interaction. The building facades in the past softens the atmosphere, and enhances the environment with a stronger sense of place. It engages the people and forming a community friendly setting.
|| Channel. ||
The elevation of linkage cater for pedestrian increases walkability within the city. It forms more connectivity in the city, providing convenience in fulfillment of pedestrian’s desired destination. The raised structure has not only play a part in zoning and becoming visible landmarks, but also facilitates the pedestrian in exploring and connecting with the city at an elevated perspective.
|| Clustered. ||
A street filled with congregation of various businesses. Despite the transformation and development undergone along the street, it retained its core idea of being a market, attracting both locals and visitors. Its presence remain known to all even its compact configuration and its criss-cross street. It remains an attraction, and to some, an attachment.
|| SINGAPORE
|| Preservation. ||
The pre-war shophouses is a historical delight consisting events and experiences from the past. These shophouses conveys a rich understanding in the culture and people from its past, with the intricacy in its facade and its interior layout that reflects the sensitivity towards the environment and importance of unification of spaces and the people.
|| Confined. ||
The linear typology in the designated street has turned into a constraint in movement instead of a journey to be experienced. Existence of pathways has become a form of connectivity provided to bridge the vast placement of neighboring buildings. The streets loses its meaning and its functionality to connect people, but instead segregating the people while connecting the concrete jungle.
|| Intertwined. ||
The permeability in its streets established the interactions of vehicles and pedestrian. It enhances the connectivity within the city, providing a high engagement with the people. The presence of its street accommodates its function to bring people together, making the street filled with vibrance.
|| Integration. ||
The arrangement of the block buildings in the city did not felt any form of rigidity. Its articulation in its connectivity of roads within the blocks of buildings, in addition with the entry of canal being a part of the city has softens the holistic view of its urban plan. The city has embraced the qualities and opportunities of its condition, making the town an optimum living environment.
|| Fusion. ||
The built environment engulfs the natural environment, reciprocates with one another, expanding its engagement with the people. The centralization of its park give rise to the sustainable living environment. A more elaborate connectivity within the city that suits to the comfortability of pedestrian and enhances social interactions.
|| Inclusion. ||
The magnificence of its building used to be a part of something big. It was meaningful, it was functional and it’s remarkable presence brought about deep impressions. The building caters to the occupants, serves with a purpose. There was interactions between the building and the people, making sense to its existence.
|| Compartmentalization. ||
The parallel routes in the city is the formation of its walkability cater for the pedestrian. The culture of window shopping is then cultivated through the designated pathways. An integration of this particular movement has transformed in terms of verticality. Spaces were segregated into confinement of compact building blocks which loses its authenticity and the sense of place.
|| Involuntary. ||
An open car park given another purpose that creates a space itself with the gatherings of people. An open space utilized by the business of hawker centre has become a form of attraction towards the locals. It was placed in close geographic proximity, also acting as a transitory platform. Even though it is in small scale, but its liveliness surpassed the present day city conditions.
