| ARC60403 |

This module brings attention to the Asian part of the architectural world. We were exposed to Vernacular architecture in South east Asia, Japanese and Chinese Vernacular architecture. Our project revolves around case study to understand more about Asian architecture. We did a video presentation, illustrating our chosen Asian architecture: Japanese Vernacular Architecture. We extracted the essence of how Japanese approach in their design as well as the elements and features that were included through the influences of it's culture. We also did a photo book, which studies our local streets in Malaysia, looking at the transformation of street, getting a glimpse of how trades, social and economy changes or affects the well-being of the street. We also did our own contextual study of our desired Asian Architecture influenced building.

This module involves a lot of self-learning and research on case studies. It was a platform that allowed us to study through examples of Asian architecture, as well as diving into the Asian Vernacular architecture, understanding how it was affected by its respective cultural aspects, social needs, economic growths and more. The process through this module taught me ways to analyze architecture, knowing the basis of vernacular architecture. The richness in vernacular architecture are immense. As time goes by, the essence of it has slowly deteriorate which in contrary, it should be retain because its where elements in vernacular architecture that reflects its story and soul behind an architecture. This module made me appreciate the details and the philosophy of each respective architecture, and made me realize how important it is to acknowledge these knowledge, and learning how to apply these knowledge into our future designs, innovating modern-vernacular architecture. It would be interesting if the architecture in the past was always retained as the fundamental of every new innovations.
